Power still out for 2,500 in Washtenaw County, says DTE Energy
This morning's windstorms caused power outages for about 80,000 households and businesses across southeast Michigan, including 3,500 in Washtenaw County.
Scott Simons, a spokesman with DTE Energy, said 63,000 homes are still without power, including an estimated 2,500 in Washtenaw County. DTE Energy serves 2.1 million customers across southeast Michigan and in the eastern portion of the state know as " the thumb."
While some residents have been told their power won't be restored until Friday, Simons said those are preliminary estimates from DTE's automated system.
Eighty percent of the affected customers in southeast Michigan should have their power restored by midnight, he said, while most of the remaining 20 percent should have the lights come back on sometime tomorrow. DTE has contracted about 30 repair crews from other utility systems to carry out what Simons called a "fairly significant" region-wide restoration effort.
An estimated 32,000 households in Wayne County, and 18,000 in Oakland County, are still without power.
