Laborpalooza event in Ann Arbor to feature Michigan gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer
Democrats from throughout Michigan, including gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer, are planning to unite in Ann Arbor on Labor Day for an event called "Laborpalooza."

The event is a celebration of labor solidarity and progressive values and is expected to have a rally-type atmosphere, organizers said.
In addition to Schauer, who is running against Gov. Rick Snyder in 2014, other speakers include U.S. Senate candidate Gary Peters, congressional candidate Pam Byrnes, U.S. Rep. John Dingell, state Sen. Rebekah Warren, and state Reps. David Rutledge, Jeff Irwin and Gretchen Driskell.
Also speaking will be former Michigan AFL-CIO President Mark Gaffney, who is serving as the honorary chairman, and Debbie Dingell, wife of John Dingell and chairwoman of the Wayne State University Board of Governors.
Admission is $15 for the general public and $10 for students.
Organizers said the event will feature several attractions, including live music, cornhole, root-beer pong, volleyball and super-soakers.
Fresh fish from Lake Huron, chicken and ribs will be served, in addition to dishes brought by attendees.
All attendees are encouraged to bring campaign paraphernalia. There's a $1 discount on the admission fee for wearing a campaign shirt of any Democratic campaign, past or present.

Okay, here's the problem. Gallup Park is free for public entry. Gallup Park does not have a gated entry where members of the Public must pay a fee before entering the park. In fact, the use of the land mass in Gallup is FREE. Shelter Pavilion, Canoe, Paddleboat or Bicycle rentals from the City of Ann Arbor at the Park has a nominal cost. Bring your own amenities - in reason of course - and members of the public can use the amenities for FREE, as entry to the park is FREE. Are Admission costs for this event associated with reimbursement for Food or the amenities this group will bring to the park? Okay, but as it stands, it appear Democrats are charging an admission fee to enter a FREE Public Park. The correct verbiage should be donation, not admission. Otherwise this scenario creates a slippery slope on Public Parks becoming a stage for Political Events, regardless of political party affiliation.

I know of a lot of other events happening at the public parks where groups are charging participants to cover food, entertainment, etc. - but not other people using the park. For example, the Shakespeare in the Arb group charges at the north gate of the Arb for people attending their events, but not residents just partaking of the Arb itself. These types of events generally have a casual ticketing system. Before you go bonkers on this, maybe find out how they plan on charging participants.

See someone can't handle the truth. Parks are not mini-political event stages. In fact, they are as non-political as could be. So, either ask for a political donation at the event (i.e. -- implies choice to give) or bot. Asking for 'admission' enter FREE Public Park is a oxymoron as the PUBLIC PARK is free. Parks are NOT political!

Jaime Magiera - You have Ron Paul's positions about 30% right. Given your outspoken background, many of his positions you will not like, but please be honest about his positions. They can be found here. While I don't like a bunch of them myself, people should look at this site to decide for themselves if they are for or against Ron Paul. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Ron_Paul By the way calling someone on the other side of the aisle a "lunatic" is a great way to start a bipartisan move to approve the FY 2014 budget, which needs to be done in the next few weeks.

Ron Paul is against any regulation of corporations, universal healthcare, environmental restrictions, national educational standards, unions and a host of other necessary components to a civilized society. He wants to do away with the Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Department of Agriculture, Department of Education, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and a host of other agencies that keep people alive, housed and educated at a base level. His stance against going to war is tangential to all the other nutty ideas he has. Ron Paul is only the answer if the question is "How can we make society more like Thunderdome?".
