Skid marks can be seen across Packard Street after the driver of a gray Jaguar lost control of the car, and it knocked down a light pole and came to a stop after crashing into a tow truck parked at Packard Auto Repair, 1800 Packard St., on Tuesday afternoon.

A crash that brought down a light pole has closed Packard Street near Stadium Boulevard in Ann Arbor, police report.

A gray Jaguar traveling at high speed crashed into the pole near the intersection with Baldwin Avenue at 2:56 p.m., said Ann Arbor police Lt. Angela Abrams.

The car also hit a tow truck parked at Packard Auto Repair.

Ann Arbor police and firefighters were at the scene, Abrams said at 3:15 p.m.

At least one person was believed to have been injured. No further information was immediately available.

So, who was this guy? Are the police filing charges against him? What's the status of this?

With a headline like 'Jaguar runs into light pole...', I rushed to the article to find out it was only a car, not a large cat that wandered out of the woods. I don't recall seeing too many headlines about 'Chevy jumps curb and hits fire hydrant', or 'Ford runs over non-historic fence'.

I guess you're not allowed to speculate as to what you think may have happened or who you think may have been driving the car. It's the rules!

Let's just make sure the car wasn't driven by a U of M "student" athlete...... please. It's the last thing the program needs.

I'm looking at the car's wheels and copious amounts of chrome trim. Maybe it's just me, but I'm thinking the owner doesn't live on Devonshire.

OMG, I just read these comments and I am seriously wondering why I bother reading annarbor.com at all. How do you people know that someone didn't have a stroke or some other kind of medical issue that could have caused them to loose control of their car? Since when do only the rich drive jaguars? For that matter, how do you know the owner of the car was driving it? Let's figure this one out Dr. Watson. It happened right after Tappen students were released, therefore a only a rich person (because only rich people live in the Tappen district and rich people don't let their kids take the bus) rushing their spoiled brat to their expensive lesson could be the culprit.

Well, I presume that the driver was simply speeding and not the victim of a seizure or stroke because he was up and about after the crash. I don't know if he owned the car or not, but he certainly hadn't stolen it, or why would he have stuck around? He was immediately on his cell phone and very distraught over the accident. He was babbling about some car that "cut him off" which was ridiculous given that he was going at least 60 MPH and had swerved into the center lane to PASS another car. He was in a state of shock from the accident, which was entirely his fault. He didn't look rich to me, but that is totally irrelevant anyway.

Yep. If you ever want to lose faith in humanity, spending too much time in the comments section here will do it for you.

@L'Chaim - glad you are OK. I hope you will share your eyewitness account with the authorities (if you did not already do so).

Well, I gave them a statement and contact info, but I haven't heard anything from the police yet. Nor has this article been updated ... I'm very curious to know if there will be criminal charges against this driver. I would gladly testify against him!

15 Min after Tappan let out. Right across from the DQ. Heavy bike and pedestrian traffic in this area. Wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the parents zooming thru after picking up their kid. Hope no one was seriously hurt.

To be clear, we are talking about a car right? Not the cat, Panthera onca? I know there are some black jaguars, but I've never heard of a silver one.

Yes, I commented prior to the picture appearing in the article. Upon seeing the rims on this vehicle I would have to agree with your conclusion. Fancy aftermarket rims = Not Rich, or at least Not Rich for Long.

Older Jag, those aftermarket wheels? Not necessarily rich.
