Motorists told to avoid Munger and Bemis roads while Hazmat crew cleans up spill
Fire crews from Pittsfield Township, the city of Ypsilanti and Augusta Township were dispatched to the intersection of Munger and Bemis roads around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for a spill.
The Pittsfield Township Public Safety Department issued a Nixle alert around 6:37 p.m. saying the intersection was closed and that motorists should seek an alternate route while a Hazmat crew investigated the scene and cleaned up the substance.
Pittsfield Fire Chief Sean Gleason said that it appeared to be a grease-like substance that came out of two 55-gallon drums.
This is the third type of incident in that area today, Gleason said.
No other information was immediately available.
7 p.m. update: Crews said they expected the area to be closed for another hour or so.
8 p.m. update: Pittsfield sent another Nixle alert that the intersection has reopened.

I'm wondering if this is actually an accidental spill or a dump site? This area is notorious for dumping! People used to dump stuff on textile between Platt and State all the time!

What were the other two incidents in that area? Isn't that newsworthy as well? OK, thanks.
