Winter weather has finally arrived in Ann Arbor. Check out photos from photographers Melanie Maxwell and Joseph Tobianski from around town as the white stuff has covered the city.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday. The snow will continue to move into the area through the late afternoon and evening becoming moderate to heavy at times, according to the National Weather Service. Snow will taper off in intensity and coverage after midnight.
Total snowfall is expected around 3 to 6 inches, and northeast winds 15 to 25 mph will cause blowing and drifting, reducing visibility. See updated weather forecasts on AnnArbor.com's weather page. Ann Arbor has already received two to four inches of snow, according to a meteorologist's report on MLive.com.
In addition to snarling traffic on area roadways, the winter storm also is affecting flights for holiday travelers. The Associated Press reported Wednesday evening that conditions around southeast Michigan have affected at least 189 flights at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and forcing the cancellation of at least 15.

I would imagine that some of the Aldi shoppers took time to watch the sledders at the Veterans Memorial Park hill; two winters ago, I took the time to watch the sledders before going into Aldi. I take it nobody collided with anyone else going down the hill. Annarbor.com sent me an encouraging video of traffic downtown; everybody was able to stop and turn without sliding. With the State and Ellsworth photo, it looks like traffic was able to turn left from State Street to Ellsworth just fine.
