Hit-and-run report leads to brief police chase in Ypsilanti Township
A report of a hit-and-run crash following the Fourth of July fireworks in Ypsilanti Township led to a brief police chase late Saturday evening, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies were directing traffic around Grove Road and Lakeshore Boulevard at 11:42 p.m. when they were told about a hit-and-run crash on private property.
They spotted the suspected vehicle as it left the event at Lakeshore Apartments. They told the driver of the car to pull over, but he instead drove out of the complex and almost struck a deputy with his vehicle.
The driver led deputies on a short chase before finally stopping near Grove and Rawsonville roads.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.
It's unclear whether the driver was involved in a hit-and-run. A spokesman from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department could not be reached for further information this afternoon.
