Gun seized from man driving wrong way on street, Ypsilanti police say

By Lee Higgins

A Kentucky man was arrested with a loaded gun this morning after Ypsilanti police say he was driving the wrong way on Pearl Street while under the influence of alcohol.

Police seized the Taurus .38-caliber revolver from the 27-year-old man, who was not licensed to carry it, a police incident log said.

The gun was found on the man's lap after he pulled into a parking space at about 12:41 a.m., a police news release said.

An officer patrolling near Washington Street saw the man's pickup truck traveling the wrong way, according to the release.

The man was taken to the police station and then to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where a search warrant was executed to determine his blood alcohol level. The results of that test were not available this morning.

The man's truck was impounded.

He is at the Washtenaw County Jail, awaiting arraignment.

Wow, we law abiding gun owners wish that it was the drunk and criminals in general who were locked up and safely stored instead... Why don't you ask about his car? Is that secured from criminals and the curious? There's an assualt vehicle that was actually being used in the article too

Hamburg, I hope that you safely lock and store that loaded gun each morning.Weapons left stashed about is how guns get in the hands of criminals during break ends.(not to mention children exploring)

First, the guy was drunk. Even if he was licensed to carry it, the license would be void since he was under the influence. Second, guns themselves do not kill people. I have kept a loaded gun under my bed for 15 years and it has not once killed anyone. It it the PERSON that CHOOSES to pull the trigger. Do you blame your computer's keyboard for misspelled words? To say a loaded gun is dangerous is statement propelled by shear ignorance. It is the drunk guy carrying it that is the dangerous part.

@Mikey2u...Approx. 1.7 million people killed by drunk drivers since WWI. Approx. 595,000 soldiers killed in WWI, WWII and Vietnam and I am sure not all with guns. The point is...PEOPLE kill PEOPLE whether with a gun, knife, baseball bat, car, boat, poison, bare hands, etc, etc, etc.
