Gas price up 6 cents since Monday, AAA Michigan says; statewide average now $4.04

By Cindy Heflin

Consider yourself wise if you filled up your gas tank Monday. You'll pay about 6 cents more for a gallon of gas if you fill up today, AAA Michigan says.

The statewide average gas price for a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded is now $4.04, the auto club said. Monday, it was $3.976. That's the first time the average price has been above $4 since Sept. 19, 2008. At that time the average price was $4.034 per gallon, AAA said.

In the Ann Arbor area the average price is $4.056, compared to $4.005 Monday. Last year the average price in Ann Arbor was $2.868, the auto club said.

The current statewide average is $1.196 more than last year at this time, AAA said.

AAA surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily. For more information, visit www.fuelgaugereport.com. To find the cheapest gas nationwide, go to AAA.com and look for AAA Fuel Price Finder.

I really wish I got gas in Dearborn. The gas prices there were 3.89 a gallon. I am appalled that gas is now $4.09 in Ypsilanti. I thought it was going down. Can't wait to see the price I am going to spend for gas this afternoon. Going to be an expensive summer.

Can we just cut taxes for the poor oil companies. They really need another round of tax cuts. Poor souls! All the money they require to rent our govt. right out from under us.

I'm certain the TeaPublican's will be happy to oblige. They only hate Democratic spending! And they know no limits for spending on Warfare!

Cut taxes for the oil companies? That's chump change...lets add another couple thousand pages to the tax code so they, and GE, get more money back in rebates...no one seems to mind, they get to deduct their mortgage interest..

We're all so 'beaten down', there isn't any cry of outrage or demand for lower prices like there was a few years ago when the prices reached close to $3.00 a gallon.

I was headed up to the thumb to pick up an order on Monday. At Davison, just off of I-69 near Flint, I noticed that one side of the street had a Speedway with a reg. unl. price of $4.18, but the other side of the street had a Sunoco at $3.97. I thought maybe I'd get some gas on my way back. But on my way back, less than an hour later, both stations were at $4.18. Ah well, didn't need gas yet anyway. BTW, you aren't falling for that $4.179 = $4.17 trick are you? Those stations said $4.179 too, which is really just sneaky marketer speak for $4.18.

So, who is responsible for the high gas prices? ex-President Bush?, President Obama? or Gov. Rick Snyder?

If prices keep going up we'll raise enough tax revenues to fund education again. Gas guzzlers = teachers salaries!
