A garage fire destroyed one vehicle and caused $75,000 in damage before Pittsfield Township and Saline firefighters could extinguish it Thursday morning, fire officials said.

Pittsfield Township firefighters and Saline Area Fire Department firefighters responded at 7:50 a.m. Thursday to the 1000 block of Bemis Road for a report of a garage fire. Pittsfield Township Fire Chief Sean Gleason said the garage was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

The two-car detached garage burned for 20 minutes before firefighters could get the blaze under control. Firefighters eventually extinguished it, but not before it destroyed the garage, vehicle and other items inside.

The initial damage estimate is $75,000, Gleason said.

No one was injured in the fire, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.

For one thing, from the sound of the article it was Pittsfield's fire with Saline assisting. Two, Saline Fire does a fine job of providing service to their area and more often than not saves more than the basement.

What kind of car? I ask because I have had and known people who had cars/trucks with recall notices on issues that could cause a "spontaneous" fire.

Good point Craig. My first thought: was it a classic car?
