Four-car crash reported on U.S. 23 ramp to Washtenaw Avenue
A four-car crash was backing up traffic on northbound U.S. 23 on the east side of Ann Arbor Monday morning.
The crash, on the ramp from northbound U.S. 23 to westbound Washtenaw Avenue, was not believed to be blocking traffic, but a Google traffic map showed a significant backup in the northbound lanes of the freeway.
It was not clear whether injuries were involved, a dispatcher with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said.
Michigan State Police were on the way to the crash at 7:45 a.m., the dispatcher said.

Why isn't there any update on this crash? Were there any injuries? Plenty of info and photos on the liquor truck that overturned - why not the Washtenaw/23 crash involving four vehicles?

Any word on when we will gain access to the local MDOT camera system? MDOT expected it to go live in fall of 2012. Instead of spending money on road improvements to improve traffic flow, they install numerous devices that monitor and inform us of the lack thereof… genius. Here is a link to the article: http://www.annarbor.com/news/freeway-cameras-will-monitor-traffic-flow-in-ann-arbor-area/

Another terrible result of 1st-generation highway interchanges. As we sit and debate the wisdom of converting Huron to a three-lane road (a solution without a corresponding problem), perhaps we can find problems that actually exist and solve them...such as the Washtenaw-US23 interchange.

Craig- If the way things were done on the 23/Washtenaw interchange were in fact the best way of doing things, don't you think we'd still be doing things that way?

The problem is lazy/bad/inattentive drivers. Not the layout of the "track" .

It took me over a half hour to get onto 23 from I-94 and up past this crash. MSP had blocked off one lane of north bound 23 at the accident location, and you couldn't take exit 37B because the crash was blocking it. I was stuck in the traffic jam from about 7:40 - 8:15. It didn't look pretty. One ambulance had passed me as I was crawling along.

That has to be the worst exit/entrance to any highway in this whole country!

I rather enjoy all 3 exit/entrances. My beef with people entering the freeway is the notion that they plan to merge at 45-60 MPH. Try merging at 70-75 the same speed everyone else is going. Life is so much easier for all if a car enters the "race track" at race speeds. The exit at Washtenaw merely requires one to declerate from 70+/- to 35-40 BEFORE entering the 270 degree turn. Its not hard its not complicated its just what a good driver does.

Sorry, but Jackson at I-94 takes the cake. For east bound you have to do a hair-pin curve to a hidden entrance. On west bound there isn't any hair-pin, just hidden until the car is right at the freeway. It's like the state had a 2 year old design them.

Well...... my son left for Washtenaw CC at 7:30 (from Saline). It is now 8:43 and he's still sitting on 94, so something is going on. I sure wish we had resources for accurate info to pass along!

Sorry - this wasn't meant as a "hit" to annarbor.com But with no local television reports, radio reports lifted from the same Internet sites that I can access, etc., it's very hard to get current news to relay to those stuck in the mess.

I hope you find it useful. I know its helped me often. The downside is if your driving alone you probably shouldn't be consulting it...unless your already in the standstill. Then it can give you a sense of how far ahead the situation is.

I'm no spokesman for Waze, well maybe I am now, but its a great traffic reporting app. Its member fed, and as more and more members come on board it can beat any other mainstream traffic info. Many users allow their phone to be pinged for accurate updating without having to physically insert info. The ping option is an option so if one is a "big brother watching me" kind of person, you can opt in or out any time.
