Forecasters: Winter storm now expected to miss Ann Arbor

- Previous story: Winter storm expected to bring more snow to Ann Arbor
A winter storm moving into the Great Lakes States on Tuesday is now on a track to miss Ann Arbor, forecasters say.
Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service was expecting the northern edge of the storm to bring an inch to an inch and a half of snow to the Ann Arbor area, but now forecasters say we may not get any snow at all.
The storm really tracked a lot further to the south, said Matt Mosteiko, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in White Lake Township, which does forecasting for all of southeast Michigan.
“Right now, there’s just a 30 percent chance of snow overnight,” he said Tuesday morning.
Folks to our south will not be so lucky. Winter storm warnings are posted for northern Illinois, northern Indiana and northern Ohio, where some areas will get 6 inches of snow or more. Up to 10 inches was expected in Chicago.
The rest of the week we’ll have highs in the mid-30s and lows in the 20s until a bit of a warming trend brings highs in the 40s for the weekend.
“Otherwise, there’s really nothing to talk about in the forecast,” he said.
Does this mean spring is on our doorstep?
“I hope so,” Mosteiko said. “I think we paid our debt to winter.”

The radar screen I'm looking at doesn't appear to be a miss at all. Looks to me something other than sunshine is going to be in our midst in about an hour or so. Right in time for rush hour.

So that big green cloud on the radar that is heading north across parts of Michigan won't make it this far?

Stom is an anti jinx curse against any impending snow storms between now and April. Although April can still get a good wallop.

Well good news for the Road Commission and city of AA road crews. They can all kick back, drink some coffee, turn off their computers and breathe a sigh of relief. One less storm to worry about. And the city has a few more dollars for public art instead of road salt!

Cindy et al, I think you partner with MLive in some fashion so I'd like recommend this weather guy who is amazing! I've followed him this winter and he is common sense and I haven't found him wrong much. I also love that he displays where we stand with the drought etc....interesting stuff that I don't find even on the NOAA site without digging deeply. http://www.mlive.com/weather/index.ssf/2013/03/michigan_weather_update_snowst.html#incart_river_default Not faulting AA.com just suggesting a great weather guy!

Walking Joe and Cindy, Yes that's him! I also follow him on FB. When it comes to weather, I just like the facts. I'm not into the drama. He gets it just right. Cindy, I'm encouraged that you are looking more toward his forecasts. I'd love to see them brought over here.

Yes, Cash, that's Mark Torregrossa. He's a meteorologist who writes about weather for MLive. We do link to his content and plan to do so more often in the future. I'm glad you like him.

Cash, if you're talking about Mark Torregrossa I agree fully. This guy doesn't sensationalize the weather like Weather.com, Accuweather, channels 4 & 7, and anyone else who just wants you "Stay with us for the latest on this major winter storm!". His forecasts are realistic and usually accurate.
