Flood watch issued for Ann Arbor area; severe thunderstorms possible
Several bouts of heavy rainfall, including what could be some severe thunderstorms, are heading for the Ann Arbor area, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch in effect through Friday morning.
Flooding is possible in the Ann Arbor area through Friday morning, the National Weather Service warns.
Showers and thunderstorms will bring 1 to 3 inches of the rain to the area over the next 24 hours, forecasters say. Some of those storms on Thursday could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain.
Recent rains already have saturated the ground, forecasters said, increasing the potential for flooding.
The high Thursday will be near 78. It will be breezy, with a south-southwest wind of 15 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
The chance for severe weather continues Thursday night, with a 100 percent chance of precipitation, the National Weather Service says. The low will be around 50 degrees.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday. Temperatures will fall throughout the day to a low of about 43 by 5 p.m. It will continue to be windy with winds gusting up to 44 mph.
Friday night, it’ll feel more like winter than spring, with a chance for snow showers and the low dropping to about 32 degrees. Winds will continue to blow, gusting to 32 mph.
Conditions will improve for the weekend with partly sunny skies Saturday and a high of 45, then sunny skies Sunday and a high of 53.

My Sister in Chelsea, I work on Westside of Ann Arbor is reporting that there is an overturned semi on Westbound I 94 at the 150 Grass Lake Exit. The wind picked it up and flipped it! The highway is shut down

Well it just started raining really hard in Dexter 5 minutes ago. Before that the sky was very black to the west. Thundering and lightning.

annarbor.com does a service by publishing the National Weather Service watches and warnings. With all due respect to the staff, I really don't want them second guessing the forecasts and trying to verify in advance whether we will be hit by severe weather.

Were you living here last year when Dexter got hit by the tornado? Well we are under a watch at this point in time due to this system. Being aware saves lives, as last year taught us.
