An open trailer full of roofing supplies caught fire Thursday around 5:30 p.m. at Hill Street and East University Avenue on the University of Michigan campus, police said.

The blaze quickly was extinguished by the Ann Arbor Fire Department, said Diane Brown, spokesperson for U-M police.

There were no reported injuries.

Brown said the trailer was next to an unoccupied building that is being renovated. The roofing company is working on the building, but employees were gone for the day when the fire started.

The cause currently is unknown, Brown said.

The trailer was filled with supplies, but the extent of the damage was not immediately known.

I was there, and it certainly wasn't "quick," at least how I would have expected it to be. Don't get me wrong--it's not like the fire was spreading or anything, so there really wasn't any reason to rush, but I'd say it took them a good 20 minutes from the time they arrived on the scene to the time they actually turned on the hose.

"An open trailer full of roofing supplies caught fire Thursday around 5:30 p.m. at Hill Street and East Michigan Avenue" I think you mean East University since that looks like the backside of the school of business in that photo. Also...there IS a Michigan Ave. near there, but it's much further down E. University just before it hit's Packard.

Thanks Jeff. It was supposed to say East University Avenue. The words got mixed up. It's since been changed.

I know it's off the topic of the story, but I'm glad to see you back--hope you're healthy! Are you going to be baking again soon?
