Editor's note: The address of the Student Run Free Clinic has been corrected.

A fire early Monday morning destroyed a free weekly clinic run by University of Michigan Medical School students at 122 S. Howell St. in Pinckney, according to media reports.

Intended to serve uninsured Livingston County residents, the weekly clinic is staffed by about 30 students and was open Saturday afternoons.

The clinic is housed in the same storefront as the primary user of the space, Faith Medical Clinic, which is run by nurse practitioner Laura Goldman and her husband Dr. Mitchell Goldman.

Faith Medical Clinic also was a total loss after the fire, the Daily Press & Argus reported. The fire was initially deemed accidental, but remains under investigation.

The U-M Student Run Free Clinic was founded by students and funded by the U-M Medical School Dean’s office and Michigan Central Student Government. Students run office operations at the U-M Clinic, while a faculty physician at the Medical School provides care to patients.
