Fire breaks out at vacant apartments on Pauline
Update: Pauline apartment fire: 'The whole building was fully involved' (with photo gallery)
Ann Arbor firefighters responded to the 1500 block of Pauline on Saturday morning to fight a blaze in the vacant apartments there that soon will be demolished.
From Ann Arbor Fire Chief Chuck Hubbard
The fire call came in at about 6:22 a.m., according to Ann Arbor Police.
Firefighters have spent time at the site: They also trained there in late September, using the vacant property for various firefighting exercises.
The property is owned by Avalon Housing, which plans to develop 32 new affordable housing units and a community center on the site, located just east of Arbordale on the city's west side.

All that smoke and pollution here under the OZ dome didn't raise any squeals from the kooks ...amazing ..good training for the real thing if we funded a fire department ..maybe it will be OZ 's answer to " burning man " in the future when because of funding it this sort of blaze just becomes " art " ...

Arson can sure get a demolition job done faster than legislation, contracts and open bidding.

I wonder if some sparks left over from earlier training exercises restarted the blaze. More likely though is that the usecure site attracted arson. What a waste of resources!

What do firefighters do protocol-wise at a site they know is slated for demolition? Interesting... It is a low-cost demo method, no?! I guess they need to investigate the start of it and all, for insurance and law enforcement, and would have to be sure that the units were truly vacant of beings... Quite the blazing blaze as captured in that image!

Looks like the fire department got a load of good practice this morning.
