Conversations on Race conference set for next week at Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan University will conduct a student conference aimed at creating a discussion on race at the Conversations on Race event from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 1.
The conference will be held at the Student Center Ballroom on EMU’s campus and is free to students, faculty and staff.
The keynote speaker of the event will be Thomas Sugrue, professor of history and sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, who specializes in 20th century American politics, urban history, civil rights and race.
In addition to Sugrue, the event will feature panel discussions and break-out sessions to discuss the history and future of race and human relations in society.
Students from other universities in southeast Michigan are invited and the event is open to the public. Attendees must register in advance. To register, click here.

The discussion will be very one sided and most attendees will leave with a warm, feel- good sense that something meaningful was accomplished.
