New York Times: University of Michigan engineering students try to design 3,300 mpg vehicle
A team of University of Michigan engineering students and recent graduates are involved in the 2012 SAE International Supermileage Challenge competition which provides students the opportunity to develop and construct a single-person fuel efficient vehicle, The New York Times reported.
If the team reaches its stated target of using 11 milliliters from the standard-issue 250-mililiter fuel tank, it will achieve 3,300 m.p.g. and set a new record, according to the Times.
The 10-member group is led by recent graduate Brett Merkel. Graduate Laura Pillari, the project manager, said the goal is to make an educational, social and fun experience for engineers.
