Father Gabriel Richard High School Top Scholars

Father Gabriel Richard High School held its 2010 graduation ceremonies May 27 at Christ the King Catholic Church. The class had 116 graduates.

Benjamin Dreyer

Parents’ name(s): Julie Dreyer

Activities and awards: Benjamin has been heavily involved in volunteer work at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church where he is an altar server. Three years in a row, he has been the recipient of a FGR math award. In addition, he is a member of the school’s chess club and has played piano for 10 years.

Plans after graduation: Benjamin plans to attend the University of Michigan.

Megan Elizabeth McIntyre

Parents’ name(s): Jim and Theresa McIntyre

Activities and awards: Megan has served as captain of the women’s varsity soccer for the past 2 years. She was a member of the 2008 soccer team that won States and was named Scholar-Athlete nominee for women’s varsity soccer. Megan was a member of the 400-meter relay that placed 1st and 800-meter relay that placed 2nd and both relay teams hold school records. She was a member of the National Honor Society.

Plans after graduation: Megan has been accepted at the University of Toledo where she will study pharmacy. She has been admitted into the contingency program at the university for automatic admission into their school of pharmacy.

Elizabeth Mitchell

Parents’ name(s): Kathryn Kristoff and Michael Mitchell

Activities and awards: Elizabeth was the 2010 salutatorian for Father Gabriel Richard High School. She was the recipient of the Wilcox Foundation scholarship for her essay entitled “Whiskers and Brains: The History of Healthcare in Plymouth”. As a member of the school’s audition choir, she had won first place in state competition the last two years. In addition, she was a part of the Madrigals Choir winning the “Golden Mickey” at the Disney World National Choral Competition for 2 years. As a volleyball player, she received an award named in her honor, the “Elizabeth Mitchell, Tough as Nails” Award for her tenacity.

Plans after graduation: Elizabeth will be attending Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio where she is one of two recipients of the Father Michael Scanlan Scholarship which is full tuition for 4 years. She plans to study nursing.

Matthew Stephen Rouhana

Parents’ name(s): Stephen and Mary Ellen Rouhana

Activities and awards: Matthew was co-captain of the FGR Catholic Apologetics Club and a retreat leader in our Kairos program. Throughout high school, he had participated in seven Drama Club productions and most recently had the lead role in the spring musical. Last year, Matthew participated in a mission trip to Appalachia. Plans after graduation: Matthew plans to attend the University of Michigan and study engineering.

Philip Francis Stella

Parents’ name(s): Dr. Phil and Lynn Stella

Activities and awards: Philip served as president of his junior class and was a member of the National Honor Society. Two-year captain of the varsity tennis team, Philip received the Fighting Irish MVP award as well as the Coach’s Award for tennis. In addition, he was nominated for the MHSAA Scholar Athlete Award.

Plans after graduation: Philip plans to attend the University of Notre Dame to study either medicine or engineering.

Ryan Wawrzaszek

Parents’ name(s): Jeff and Susan Wawrzaszek

Activities and awards: Ryan was the 2010 Valedictorian of Father Gabriel Richard High School. He had been named a National Merit Finalist and recipient of a National Merit Scholarship as well as University of Michigan Regents’ Scholarship. He has served as captain of the varsity track team for two years and is a five-time winner of “All Catholic” for track and twice for both All-Academic and Scholar-Athlete in soccer. Ryan recently completed his BSA Eagle Project at Mott’s Children’s Hospital and will complete his Board of Review in June. Throughout his senior year, he served on the Kairos retreat team

Plans after graduation: Ryan plans to study biomedical engineering at the University of Michigan.
