Pending approval by the EMU Board of Regents, Tidwell’s appointment is effective July 1. His annual salary will be $195,000.

Tidwell, 38, is succeeding David Mielke, who served as dean since July of 2004 and stepped down last July.

Tidwell was selected following a nationwide search in which four finalists were brought to campus for interviews and public forums.

“I'm excited and honored to accept this opportunity at Eastern Michigan University," Tidwell said in a statement. "EMU's College of Business has an excellent reputation, distinctive curriculum and programs, such as Ethos Week, and faculty who enjoy an exceptional relationship with students. I'm looking forward to leading the college and working with President Martin, Provost Schatzel and their university team."

Tidwell, a native of southern California, earned a bachelor's degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and his master's and doctoral degrees from Washington State University in Pullman, Wash.

"We are proud of our business school and its global mission, and I'm confident Michael will continue its excellence and vibrant growth," EMU President Susan Martin said.
