This story has been corrected to show the incident occurred in Scio Township, not Dexter Township.

An unknown person attempted to enter a Scio Township home Monday, breaking a sliding glass door after ringing the doorbell a few times while a teenage girl was at home showering, police said.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Geoffrey Fox said Wednesday the incident occurred during daylight hours Monday in the 8000 block of Sandfield Court in Scio Township.

A 16-year-old girl who lives at the home heard the doorbell ring while she was in the shower. After not answering the door, the girl reported hearing the sliding glass door break a few moments later.

“Dogs in the house went crazy and a couple minutes later she heard glass breaking and the dogs running around,” Fox said. “I don’t know if the dogs scared the suspect away or maybe the fact that the glass broke while the suspect was attempting to pry open the sliding glass door did it.”

It appeared the suspect did not actually enter the home, and nothing was reported stolen, Fox said. Deputies were unable to gather any evidence at the scene.

There was no suspect information available Wednesday morning. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711.
