Police issue alert about 'suspicious' man who told Dexter Township residents he was armed
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office issued an alert Tuesday morning about a suspicious incident involving a man who approached a Dexter Township home and told the residents he was armed and working with police.
Around 8:30 p.m. Monday, the "suspicious individual" went to the door of a home in the 12000 block of North Territorial Road, according to an alert sent out over the Nixle messaging system.
The homeowners described the man as "stocky" with brown hair and a buzz cut and goatee. The man used the name "Horace," the alert said.
"(He) indicated he was working with the police and looking for someone," the alert continued. "(He) stated he was armed with two handguns, however none were seen."
The man was reported to be driving an older, 1990s model brown or tan Chevy Blazer or Tahoe with no hubcaps. The alert stated he left the driveway in a manner that concealed the license plate and drove west on North Territorial Road.
If you have any information please contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office at (734) 994-2911 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

I've seen the map, I've lived in Washtenaw County for decades, yet I've never figured out how anyone could "drive north" on generally East-West oriented North Territorial Road. Anyway, I've heard stories like this before and the country-living friends who've told them always answer strange visitors like the one described with their gun belt on.

This sounds like he had approached the home expecting no one to be home...and when someone answered the door he had a story ready. All the houses along that section of north T are large and nice, some even have shop or track trailers in the front yard (targets for thieves). The guy could have been planning on seeing if anyone was home, and if not, hitch up that trailer and drive off.
