Grab your wallets and head to downtown Dexter Saturday to be part of the Ann Arbor Cash Mob Crawl for tornado relief.

According to Paul Hickman, an organizer of the event, the tornado relief Cash Mob Crawl is being put together to support Dexter businesses in the wake of the tornado that struck the village on March 15.

Modeled after the “flash mob” concept, Cash Mobs have taken off nationally in support of locally owned businesses to create a grassroots network of engaged citizens.

The Ann Arbor Cash Mob was formed in early 2012, and has “mobbed” several local businesses in the past three months. It has no affiliation with these businesses and anyone can join, “the idea is to bolster the local economy and have a little fun while doing it.” Hickman said in a news release.

“The entire business community of Dexter has come out in full force to help those in need in the tornado’s aftermath,” according to the release.

“There has been a great outpouring of financial and volunteer support for the cleanup. What’s been missed in this outpouring is direct support to these very businesses that have been giving so much to residents of the Dexter area. It’s time for the rest of Washtenaw County and the State of Michigan to do their parts.”

Participants are asked to meet at the Monument Park gazebo in the center of downtown Dexter at 10 a.m. Saturday.

From there, the Cash Mob as a group will visit as many of the downtown Dexter businesses as possible to show support for their rebuilding of the devastated area. No single business will be singled out - all the businesses have pitched in and should be supported, the release states.

The event is expected to last until about 5 p.m.
