Dexter school board approves weighted grades for advanced courses
Students in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses at Dexter High School will be given 0.33 “honor points” per grade next year, according to an article in the Dexter Leader.
The Dexter school board voted on Monday in favor of switching to a weighted grading system for certain academically rigorous courses.

Principal Kit Moran told the Leader the 0.33 increase to AP and IB classes was a way for the district to ease into the change. Dexter Community Schools administrators now will work on developing a protocol for deciding whether honors and world language courses will be included. The protocol will be in place by May 13, 2013, the Leader article said.
Chelsea and Saline high schools operate on a true 5.0-scale, awarding students a full 1.0 honor point for advanced classes, while Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor also weight grades at 0.33 higher in their more academically challenging courses.

FYI, many universities (including the University of Michigan) 'unweight' AP and other such accellerated class grades so the whole weighting thing doesn't always even 'count' for college admissions.

I'm surprised by the inequality across school districts. I hope the college admissions have a listing of each school districts' weighting factors for AP courses. Otherwise, a 3.6 in Ann Arbor does not equal a 3.6 in Dexter.
