LaFontaine Chevrolet site plan on Dexter agenda
The Dexter Village Council will consider a combined preliminary and final site plan for a new $7 million LaFontaine Chevrolet dealership at its regular meeting Monday night.
The plan includes removing the current buildings on the site at 7120 Dexter-Ann Arbor Road and replacing them with a 32,000-square-foot commercial building, office, auto repair shop and car wash.
The site will be reconfigured for a two-phase development that includes demolishing the used car trailer and existing sales building.
The plan was given unanimous approval on Dec. 6 by the village’s Planning Commission, which tacked on several conditions, which included concerns about parking, lighting, and landscaping.
The applicant was also asked to work with the village for a landmark or art feature for its corner location at Ryan Drive and Dexter-Ann Arbor Road.
Requested was “a distinct and prominent architectural feature or site element, which reflects the importance of the building’s corner location and creates a positive visual landmark.”
According to a letter dated Dec. 20, Matt LaFontaine, general manager of the car dealership, agreed to donate $5,000 toward a piece of public art for the corner.
The dealership is expected to add 50 to 100 new jobs in the village and sells about 2,000 cars a year.
The Village Council has a short agenda during its second meeting of December, which takes place during the holidays. The council meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Dexter Senior Center, 7720 Ann Arbor St.
