Convicted murderer Gregory Noack sentenced to up to 70 years in prison for Dawn Fital's death
Just six days before the one-year anniversary of Dawn Fital's death, Gregory Noack was sentenced to between 40 and 70 years in prison for killing her, according to court officials.

The sentence handed down by Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge David Swartz Thursday was consistent with the plea agreement reached with prosecutors in May. Noack pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, kidnapping with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, unlawful imprisonment, tampering with evidence, unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle and larceny in a building. Open murder and felony murder charges were dropped.
Noack, 45, will be 84 by the first time he’s eligible for parole, thanks to the credit he’s earned by being lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail since June 2011.
Noack killed his girlfriend Fital, a 45-year-old championship pool player and mother of four, after she refused sexual contact with him on June 13, 2011. It was a brutal act, with Noack wrapping duct tape around her face and mouth as a gag and then choking her until she died.

Noack stuffed Fital’s body into a large suitcase he found in her apartment, loaded it into her Chevrolet Blazer and began making his way toward California, his eventual goal.
He only got to Merilville, Ind. He intended to bury Fital’s body there, but instead stashed it in a retention pond, where it was eventually recovered. He was arrested and questioned in Merilville, eventually admitting to the crime during a police interview shown on video at an October preliminary exam.

Prison for crimes like this in this country ought to include brutally hard labor every waking minute of every day.

Why do WE have to pay for these idiots to be in prison for 30 or more years. They are a debt to society, don't contribute to anything & sit on their butts all day long. Just put out their lights, PERIOD. They don't deserve to live, just like their victims.

Mr. Noack needs to get that smug, attitude-riddled expression off his face(see picture)because i doubt that it will serve him very well in prison. To Mark Hergott, I totally agree with you. this MONSTER should NEVER EVER see the light of day again!

The Washtenaw Trial Court is very soft. They always have been. How is it this man duct tapes, chokes this poor woman to DEATH, then proceeds to put her in a suitcase, tosses her in a pond, and does not receive a life sentence!? Yes, he will die in prison chances are, but he still did not hear a judge tell him he is "sentenced to life in prison".

This crime occurred in my apartment complex. I vividly remember the police waking me up at 7:45 a.m. on June 15th to question me. I recall the police cars; the news vans; the choppers; the Dumpsters being hauled away to be searched. The apartment was re-rented long ago. I think about the victim every time I drive past it. Rest in Peace, Ms. Fital.

not a bad idea, Homeland but didn't we remove the troops from Iraq about 6 months ago? if they did send him to Afghanistan, they should paint on the front of his uniform, "I murdered my girlfriend, a single mom whose children now have no mom because of me, because she wouldn't have sex with me." also....maybe that one bullet should be made of rubber?

In 2010 it cost $89.91 per day to house an inmate in a Michigan prison. That works out to $32,817 annually, or $1,312,686 for 40 years (not accounting for inflation).

@ Mark: I have but one thing to add and that his incarceration must be that he has no contact or ability to hurt anyone else (this includes prisoners as well as officers).

I don't care if this might be against guidelines, but murderers like Noack should stay in tiny boxes for their entire natural lives, and they ought to be completely, utterly bored. Indeed, we ought to make sure they live as long as possible, so their punishment, not being able to hurt anyone or do anything, lasts as long as possible. My sympathies go out to the friends and family of Dawn Fital. I don't mind at all paying taxes to keep this murderer in a box.

I agree. I'd rather have my taxes go towards making the rest of this animal's life miserable than towards a majority of the other things for which they are currently being used. We need to institute the "Cool Hand Luke" prison system in this state.
