Deputies search for man exposing himself in Dexter area
The man drives up to homes at night, turns on a light in his car and waits for women or children to see him, Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputies say.
Once he gets their attention, he exposes himself, turns off the light and speeds away, investigators say.
Deputies say the man was spotted four times last month in the Dexter area, including three times in two days last week.
One of the incidents occurred in Dexter, another in Webster Township and two others in Scio Township, sheriff's department incident reports show.
On Friday, the man was spotted twice in less than 30 minutes, including in the Loch Alpine subdivision in Webster Township.
A woman returned to her Glen Eagles Court home about 9:30 p.m., turned on the outside lights and let her dog out, an incident report said.
That’s when a minivan pulled in front of her driveway. A man sitting the driver’s seat took off a light-colored T-shirt and his pants, the report said.
The woman, who was standing in a doorway, went to get her phone to call 911, and the man's vehicle sped off toward Joy Road, the report said.
When the 911 call came in, deputies were already on the scene of a similar incident on Noble Drive in Dexter that was reported 25 minutes earlier.
Two girls and a boy, ages 6 to 9, were playing video games while one of their parents was in the bathroom.
The children told deputies a man in a white sedan turned on a dome light in his car and exposed himself. They saw him through the window, the report said. He was wearing a white-T-shirt, but nothing else. He was described as white, about 50 years old, with a medium to heavy build and had short white or gray hair.
One of the children told deputies the man “looked them in the eyes” during the incident, the report said. He quickly drove off, traveling north.
Two reported sightings of the man occurred on Birkdale Drive in the Polo Fields subdivision in Scio Township.
On Thursday, a woman saw a man parked in a van in the road about 8:25 p.m., a report said. He took off his shirt and got into the back of the van, the report said.
The man was seen on the same road on Jan. 3 at about 9:25 p.m., a report said. A woman reported her daughter and a friend saw a dark older-model minivan pull in front of the house and stop. A light came on in the van, and an older white male driver stripped and began to masturbate, the report said. There was a bicycle in the back of the van, which left toward Park Road.
Derrick Jackson, the sheriff department's director of community engagement, is encouraging anyone who sees suspicious activity outside their home to call 911.
People also can call the sheriff department’s confidential tip line at (734) 973-7711.

A lot of people have two cars. It's interesting that you are joking about this. A man was recently sentenced to 27 years in prison for exposing himself to children. That was for "aggravated indecent exposure." The man in the Dexter area qualifies for a similar conviction under Michigan law. It's beyond "flashing."
