You and the Twitterverse: 8 University of Michigan Twitter accounts to follow
Want to keep abreast of happenings at the University of Michigan?
AnnArbor.com has complied a list of eight tweeters we think you might want to follow. Whether you're a student, staff member, or a Tree Town native that likes to take advantage of free events, there's probably something on each of these Twitter feeds for you.
1: Dave Brandon
@DaveBrandonADMichigan athletic director Dave Brandon is one of the school's more high-profile and active individual tweeters. He tweets on all things athletics, from wishing the school's softball team good luck to praising the Olympic performance of U-M grads. He told AnnArbor.com, in a tweet, that he manages his own Twitter account, which has more than 27,500 followers.
2: Michigan Students
@UmichStudentsThis account is one-of-a-kind, as far as university-centered social media goes. The handle is managed each week by a different student. The student can freely tweet from the account, which is monitored by U-M staff. It's a good way to get a feel of U-M from the eyes of a student.
3: UMich Med Admissions
@UMichMedAdmissThis is an active and helpful account, especially if you're applying to medical school. The owner tweets tips for applying to medical school, pictures of happenings around campus and Ann Arbor and answers tweeters application questions.
4: Ora Pescovitz
@OraPescovtizOra Pescovitz, CEO of the U-M Health System, joined Twitter in May but is right up there with Dave Brandon as one of the school's most active high-profile tweeters. She tweets about everything from her reaction on the high court ruling involving the Affordable Care Act to new UMHS innovations.
5: Michigan Alumni
@MichiganAlumniThis is a great account to get a comprehensive view of what's happening at U-M, from alumni weddings at Michigan Stadium to the occasional job opening at a businesses owned by U-M alumni.
6: Filmic Productions
@FilmicProdsFilmic Productions is a student-run video production group at U-M. This account will keep you up to date on their videos, which include a spoof musical about on-campus transportation options. And it's not without its perks. Filmic will let you know when they need an extra for a video and if you're a landmark follower they might create a video for you, like they did for their 500th follower.
7: UMich LSA
@UMichLSAThis is another useful account for a bird's-eye view of what's happening on campus, from interesting research projects to upcoming student events. Plus, it's partially run by student interns.
8: University of Michigan
@UMichDuh! U-M's Twitter account is actually favored by Twitter, whose CEO is a U-M grad. The account offers interesting tidbits about university history and campus life, tweets the occasional squirrel picture and interacts with students involved in the twitterverse.
This is a good starting point, but it's far from a conclusive list. Let us know your favorites in the comment section below.

I am "up to here" in social media already - it may have "good stuff" but there's a point where information overload takes over. I can see though why AnnArbor.com might be interested and get something from "Tweeting." But for me, the word "tweet" just evokes an endless loop of the song, Rockin' Robin in my head. ;-) (And besides, Wolverines don't tweet - they growl.)

Good stuff. For those wanting to track all the interesting cultural, intellectual and athletic events over at Eastern Michigan University, there is the official Twitter account EMU and its lovable mascot, Swoop, at Swoop @EMU_Swoop. Also, follow the official news source at EMU, EMU News @emunews.
