Ypsilanti Township man allegedly robbed, then shot in the leg

By John Counts

A 39-year-old man told police that Monday night he was approached by an acquaintance at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of South Harris in Ypsilanti Township, robbed of cash and then shot in the leg.

Deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital at 9 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gunshot wound.

The 39-year-old Ypsilanti Township man had been shot, but was in stable and fair condition. He told police he was walking through the complex when the suspect, who police say was known to the man, brandished a handgun and told the man to give him all his money, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Sgt. Geoff Fox of the sheriff's office said the man handed over his cash and was instantly shot in the leg. Police would not disclose how much money was taken. Neither the man nor the suspect lived at the apartment complex. Police are not releasing any other information about the suspect.

After the alleged robbery and shooting, the suspect fled. The man was transported to the hospital by a person who was in the area, Fox said.

The investigation continues as police search for the suspect.

I hope the man recovers quickly, and leads a long life after this. These stories are always a bummer.

Wasn't there a shooting or two in that apartment complex within the year too?
