Ypsilanti police seize gun, drugs from Green Road home

By Lee Higgins

Ypsilanti police seized a handgun, heroin, crack cocaine and cash from a man's Green Road home Monday morning after arresting him on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, police said.

The man's vehicle was stopped about 9:30 a.m. on Hamilton Street near I-94, a police crime summary said.

After arresting him, officers obtained a search warrant for his home in the 800 block of Green Road and seized the items, the summary said.

Police said the man was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail. Charges are pending.

IANAL but my understanding is if he was a parolee or on probation a warrant is not necessary as you sign those rights away and give consent to as a condition of parole and probation...

@Bear i was thinking the same thing myself. something is missing from the story. maybe the guy had something on him when he was stopped. maybe the guy was on parole or probation. but i still don't know if that justifies a search warrant for the home.

interesting. I believe that A2.com is, as usual, leaving a lot of this story out. For instance, how is it that getting pulled over for a suspended license leads to having your home searched? Next thing you know, jaywalkers will be getting frisked and held until search warrants are approved for raiding their homes. Glad to hear another crack head with a pistol is off the street, but what? When? Where? Who? & especially HOW? How does getting pulled over and arrested for a suspended license lead to having your house searched?

I doubt that the search warrant was issued because this character is a "crack head" with a pistol. It is more likely that he is a drug dealer whose identity is known to law enforcement. Check out the sworn statement given in support of the search warrant.

Wait! Does this mean that people who break laws (let's call them criminals) don't follow laws?!?!?! Drug, auto, or firearms laws ignored?? Quelle suprise! Any idea if the car was insured or registered? Good job getting him YPD! Lord knows what mayhem he would've caused with that car!

I bet this guy did not go through the process to buy his hand gun legally. I think this because he was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.
