Ypsilanti man shot twice outside apartment on city's south side

A 35-year-old Ypsilanti man was shot twice early Friday while standing with other people in front of an apartment on the city's south side, police said.

The man underwent surgery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township for his injuries, police said in a news release, but further information about his condition was not immediately available.

Police said the man was standing with several other people in front of an apartment around 12:05 a.m. in the 600 block of Armstrong Drive when someone fired several shots from an open area behind him and people began to scatter. The victim fell to the ground and was lying there when police arrived. He was wounded in the thigh and buttocks, police said.

The suspect is a man, police indicated in the news release, but no description was immediately available. Police continue to investigate.
