Police: Would-be burglary suspect empty-handed after beauty store break-in

A burglary suspect who allegedly broke into New Image, a beauty supply business located at 1007 Emerick St. in Ypsilanti Township, found something that was likely not very pretty in his eyes — an empty cash register, police said.

Deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the business at 3:29 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of the alarm going off. The front glass door was broken out, but there were no suspects inside, according to police.

Police think the suspect used a rock to smash the door, then check the register, which contained no money, and the front counter area before fleeing the scene.

The suspect, who police said was caught on the beauty shop's security camera, is described as a white male, 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds. He was wearing a Detroit Tigers baseball hat with what appeared to be a dark-colored bandanna wrapped around his face and neck. The T-shirt, vest and pants he wore were also dark colored. The suspect had on black and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the sheriff's office at (734) 973-7711.
