A woman accused of fatally shooting her husband at their Ypsilanti Township apartment Wednesday morning, then falsely reporting to 911 dispatchers that she shot an intruder, is being held without bond at the Washtenaw County Jail.

Katharine Mishler, 23, was arraigned this afternoon at the jail on charges of murder, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and false report of a felony.

Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies say Mishler fatally shot her 20-year-old husband Samuel Mishler in the head at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday after an argument at Tuscan Creek apartment homes in the 200 block of Stevens Drive.

Sheriff's Det. Everette Robbins said in court that Katharine Mishler called 911, deliberately misleading dispatchers by telling them she was a victim of a home invasion.

"It was a calculated call in which she was trying to cover up the fact that she just murdered her husband," he said.

Mishler answered routine questions in court, telling Magistrate Thomas Truesdell that she works at Einstein Bros. Bagels at University of Michigan Hospital and makes about $300 weekly after taxes. She said she has no minor children.

Mishler also said she has a 1996 Ford Taurus and a checking and savings account, but cannot afford an attorney.

Truesdell said he would appoint Mishler a public defender and ordered that she be held without bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 6. Several people attended the arraignment, but declined to comment.

Note to AnnArbor.com web developers: I wish deleted comments would disappear and not just be a humungous no-smoking sign with a large fake italicized comment. This comment section is 3 miles long and only 4 comments aren't removed. If nothing else a deleted comment should be a single line that contains the 'comment deleted' text. No need for a big man wearing a red seatbelt.

Just testing, as my original comment was removed for advocating specific punishment (yes, I read the guidelines afterward). If I were to post, "I hope she gets a fair trial and, if found guilty, is directed by judge and jury to be punished to the fullest extent permissible by the law." would it be removed as a guideline violation? Not to sound like I'm supporting "the man", but I completely understand why AnnArbor.com is so strict with comment moderation regarding tragic death. Just imagine it was your son or daughter or brother or mom that was being reported on. This is the kind of story that makes me wish the news was on a paper and the comments were heard only by the air around you. That being said I haven't read any of the deleted comments... because they are deleted.

I don't understand some of the posters on these pages. @ gregorym why do you need to see a picture of the victim? That would only add to the pain his family is going through. I know. My daughter was murdered by her estranged husband in November. @Bill Seeking counseling is great but some times these things happen so fast that counseling could not have happened. @ Huron 74 I wish more of these online comments in other papers were deleted in tragedies like this. Put in Hillside Murder Suicide in the search and look at comments that were left up in the Jackson Citizen Patriot on the articles from my daughter's murder in November and see what we had to see as her parents. Then imagine if it would have been your daughter or son and would you have wanted those things said about a member of your own family?

Too bad they didn't seek counseling? This seems so incredibly extreme.

@ffej440, and some states want to allow handguns on college campuses. Yea, that's just a disaster waiting to happen.

The real story should be interesting, who did the gun belong to?

Thank God, this couple didn't have any children. I see nothing here but sorrow and loss. SAD situation for all involved.

It is simply not possible to comment on a crime story at Ann Arbor.com without being deleted. Unless all you're going to say is "god bless the victims" & etc.

So if the age to buy booze is 21, why is the age to buy a gun only 18?
