Wal-Mart in Ypsilanti Township evacuated after suspicious package is found

By Lee Higgins

The Wal-Mart at 2515 Ellsworth Road in Ypsilanti Township was evacuated this afternoon after an employee found a suspicious package inside, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department spokesman Derrick Jackson said.

However, police had cleared the scene by 1:13 p.m. after they determined that there was no safety threat.

The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad arrived on the scene at about 12:50 p.m., Jackson said, and left about 30 minutes later.

Jackson said there was a package inside the store with wires coming out of it. It was attached to a circuit board, he said, prompting concerns about a possible bomb threat.

However, Jackson confirmed that officials received no threat in relation to the package.

The store has reopened.

We're becoming a society paralyzed by fear. We should start posting the "cost" of calling out a bomb squad on all dumpsters, in stores, parks, and on the street. Let's get some education going so we don't have people freaking out over nothing.

Somebody got tired of waiting when there are 15 empty registers and 30 people walking around with their thumbs you-know-where.

This isn't funny, it was scarey. I was there. Glad it all ended well, and no explosive.

Get over it! All are safe and it was a foreign item, to bad not US made, then we would have not wasted all the money to send fire and rescue

Possible that the package contained a American made product making it unidentifiable for most Wal-Mart patrons and employees thus causing concern..
