University of Michigan Police are telling the campus community to look out for a man who has been approaching female students, asking them out on a date and trying to kiss them.

According to an alert posted on the department’s website Tuesday afternoon, there have been several reports of a man acting suspiciously in the North Campus area since Friday. The incidents were reported near the Bursley and Baits dormitories and the North Campus Recreation Building.

Police said the man typically approaches a woman, tells her she’s pretty and asks her out on a date. According to police, the man has attempted to kiss a woman on more than one occasion.

Police described the man as having a dark complexion or olive skin, possibly of Middle Eastern or Italian descent. He has a heavy accent, is in his 30s and has shoulder-length hair, according to police.

In the alert issued Tuesday, police left open the possibility that more than one man has been approaching women in a similar fashion.

Anyone with information on these incidents is encouraged to call the University of Michigan Police at 734-763-1131.

This lip violence must stop! It's our moral duty to have every lip owner and all lip buyers background checked. Super Security Sue should have locked down the U of M campus and erected a Lip Free Zone barrier against this miscreant. Ban kissing, Mary Sue! ;-)

Sounds like he or they have been put up to a dare. I'd take that over the naked old guy that was going after runners last year.

This is a cultural difference. We shouldn't be so quick to judge. Just because we don't like it in this country doesn't mean its wrong.

We should sceptically examine the use of diversity and cultural differences in defense of behavior and performance deficiencies.

Yea it's fine to be going around kissing strangers. Then you notice the creepy sores on their mouth. Yuck.

Incorrect. It is BECAUSE we don't like it in this country that SPECIFICALLY makes it wrong. You just justified the store manager of Denny's in the late 90s treating ALL his female employees and customers like garbage. I called him out on it and his response was, "They're WOMEN....I don't have to respect them..." Guess why he's not a manager at Denny's anymore? They would absolutely LOVE you in England smoke....they'd just ADORE you over there...

Yes it is. Just because it might be acceptable in another country (not sure it is) doesn't make it right. Even if the person's intent is not to cause harm – it can induce alarm. Kissing is potentially harmful by the very nature of its transmission of germs (either direction for that matter); it is an intrusion of personal space, it is very assumptive that the recipient would desire such assertiveness, it's rude, it can be frightening, and, being this is the U.S. and we take it as offensive, and I assume illegal, the person needs to refrain, no matter if this is culturally acceptable in his native land. Ignorance of the law is not excuse.

Wonder if he's tried that at a bar? There he might not be so obvious and he might just get a date.
