Two men charged in thefts from construction sites

By Cindy Heflin

A Canton man and an Ypsilanti Township man face charges in connection with thefts from construction sites in Washtenaw County.

The men, Thomas Richard Vickery, 48, of Ypsilanti Township and Richard Wayne Sherwood, 32 of Canton Township, were arrested Sunday and face felony charges of breaking and entering a building with intent, larceny of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000 and receiving and concealing stolen property of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000.

Police allege the men broke into a building under construction at 5725 Hines Drive last Sunday and that they took building materials belonging to Tecumseh Products.

Police said Monday they spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspects’ vehicle and took the suspects into custody after a traffic stop.

Pittsfield Township police worked with officers from Eastern Michigan University, the University of Michigan to catch the suspects, who police believe have stolen from other sites, according to a press release issued Monday.

Further information about the other sites possibly burglarized was not available.

Not on my watch: security cameras do the heavy lifting...logging license plates helps, too.

Sounds to me like the police departments used some good old fashioned team work. Perhaps Ann Arbor's mayor could learn from this and work with the community and city council to find a way to bring back some police officers. Oh sorry there is a public arts project that really needs his attention. What a Joke, He shouldn't be allowed to act as mayor of middle earth.
