Teen charged with sexually assaulting two children in Ypsilanti Township

By Lee Higgins

A Carleton teenager accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting two children at an Ypsilanti Township apartment complex in February has been released on bond, Washtenaw County Jail officials said.

Laccey Kaitlyn Adkins, 17, was arraigned this afternoon in front of 14A District Magistrate Camille Horne on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Adkins is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting the children, both of whom are under age 13, between Feb. 21 and Feb. 27, county court records show.

She was released after posting 10 percent of a $25,000 bond, records show. Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department spokesman Derrick Jackson did not return a phone call seeking comment on the case.

If convicted, Adkins could spend the rest of her life in prison.

Here are a couple of links to definitions for first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct: <a href="http://www.umich.edu/~sapac/info/csc1.html" rel='nofollow'>http://www.umich.edu/~sapac/info/csc1.html</a> <a href="http://www.umich.edu/~sapac/info/csc2.html" rel='nofollow'>http://www.umich.edu/~sapac/info/csc2.html</a>

How about a little more information so that I don't have to do research to read your article. How are these defined: &quot;...first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.&quot; Maybe you can't publish specific details, but could you please tell us the general information pertinent to the story.

Studies show that about one quarter of girls are molested and nearly as many boys. Even assuming that every accused molester who claims to have been molested as a child were telling the truth... They only represent a very small fraction of those molested. There really is no believable correlation between molestation and later molesting. This is a defense strategy put forward by attorneys to make their client/monster seem less evil. The media has run with it and experts for hire have pushed it; but the facts are just not there.

She will do five years of probation but only about 30 or 60 days jail if that. I love how journalists always say &quot;could&quot; serve so many years in prison when 99 percent of the time criminals don't ever come close to doing the max or anywhere near it for a felony.

I would hope the defendant's mental health would be evaluated; this sort of (alleged) behavior from a 17 year-old female may indicate she was a victim at one time as well. Yes you can charge a 17 year old as an adult, but you don't necessarily have to. Obviously need a few facts that cannot be made public at this time...

I am not an expert by any means but I do believe in the State of Michigan, at the age of 17 you can no longer be charged as a juvenile...My understanding of the law is that once a &quot;child&quot; turns 17 (in MI) you are considered an adult.

I ask this in the spirit of healthy debate, not to single you out... but I wonder if you would hope the same thing if the alleged were male?

Damn it, I used the word 'alleged' like five times. What more do you want? What more could I have done? I didn't accuse, I made no egresious assumptions. You moderators stink sometimes. Really really stink. Could the moderator who deleted my post please, respectfully, tell me how, exactly, I transgressed? You see, I truly have no idea how I stepped out of bounds. I was making a conscious effort to stay between the lines. Good night.

The teen if the teen makes it out of prison alive, will spend most of it in solitary confinement because the other prisoners will kill the teen. If the teen makes it out alive? The teen will be out in 5 with probation for good behavior. This is the way it is.

She sexually assaulted two children at an Ypsilanti Township apartment complex and is released on bond? I don't know what is more sickening; the repeated assaults or the 14A District Magistrate releasing her?
