Sheriff's department: Few new leads in apartment complex shootout

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Two people wounded in a parking lot shooting involving several people have not provided police with many details on the incident, Washtenaw County Sheriff's officials said Saturday.

The incident took place Thursday night in Meadow Ridge Apartments on Michigan Avenue near Ellsworth in Ypsilanti Township.

Occupants of two vehicles fired shots at each other in what was described as a shootout.

Two people ended up hospitalized. They were the only two people left behind when the various occupants of the cars left the scene immediately after the shooting. They had tried to flee, but required medical attention before they could get far.

The total number of people involved and the reason for the gunfire remain undetermined, police said.

"However, it does not appear to be a totally random shooting," said spokesman Derrick Jackson.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (773-2587).

I'm supposed to move here in less than a month. I checked the place out, and it seemed nice and quiet. Now I am really worried about living here :-/

LaMusica, I've lived here for over 3 years, and while there have been problems with loud music and late night parties on the patios (for which I've called the police), this is the first gun/violence incident that I'm aware of. I do wish it was quieter here, but I've never felt "unsafe."

I'm not sure it applies in this case, but it sounds like some of these apartment properties need to be classified as nuisance properties, and their owners forced to take more action in regard to security, safety, lighting, etc.

Its not okay when said shoot out happens in a neighborhood. These are not run down complexes in a deserted part of town. Kids play outside, people grill when the weather is nice. Even if they were horrible apartments, the idea of scum shooting scum being okay is not! This could have wound up with a resident getting injured or killed. I care about that!

If the two "victims" won't say who did it, why should the rest of us care? It doesn't seem like they're shooting anyone except the scum who run in their own circles.

Those particular apartments in that location were always problematic.
