Man accused of exposing himself in his car in Pittsfield Township

By Lee Higgins

A Belleville man is accused of exposing himself in June while his car was stopped at an intersection in Pittsfield Township, police said.

Christopher Lee Owens, 22, is charged with aggravated indecent exposure, Washtenaw County court records show.

He has not yet been arraigned in court.

About 4:30 p.m. June 22, police said a 42-year-old Milan area woman was driving west on East Ellsworth Road when she stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of East Ellsworth and Platt roads. As she waited for the light to turn, she heard loud music, prompting her to look over at a car in a southbound lane on Platt Road, police said. The driver of that car had the window down, the seat reclined and was masturbating, said Gordy Schick, the township's deputy director of police services.

Schick said officers interviewed the woman and obtained the car's license plate number. Two days later, officers spotted the car on Michigan Avenue, pulled it over and interviewed Owens, police said.

Schick declined to discuss specifics of that interview, but said it resulted in the charge being filed. It's unclear when Owens will appear in court.

This same thing happened to a woman in Adrian last year, and the perp was the Hudson city manager. But I read last week he got off.

This is a story makes me wonder what type auto she was riding in. If it was a pick-up truck, SUV, it is easy to look down into a smaller car. (Semi-truck drivers get their eyes full daily)

Disturbing to say the least.

Photos of the perps? Come on, AA dot com. Do your job and post the mug shots.

From my understanding being charged does not mean being arrested and photographed. Those are two seperate occurances, its likely mugshots were not taken.

So it sounds like the accused wasn't able to pull that one off

I liked both comments about the witness having "good vision" at the intersection. She provided a license plate, etc. The part of the article that most apparently missed is the interview of Mr. Owens. He said something to the investigating officers that led to criminal charges being filed. Does the word "confession" ring a bell?

since he wasn't caught *red handed* a confession sounds reasonable.

"aggravated indecent exposure" I've heard of just indecent exposure. What makes it aggravated?

Aggravated Indecent Exposure involves "fondling," and is a felony. Indecent Exposure is "flashing" and is a misdemeanor.

Sounds like a contortionist. What a grisly image this has implanted on my brain.

For the reasons mentioned, and the lack of further information, this story makes no sense. Anyone could report anyone for "indecent" behavior and then they are arrested for this on the first person's say so? Something is amiss here.

My guess is that after being interviewed by the police Mr. Owen admitted to what he did. Just saying!

The person wasn't arrested. This happened 3 months ago. The police investigated this. After interviewing Mr. Owens, the police felt there was enough evidence to to file a warrant request with the prosecutor's office. Apparently it was approved and that's why the guy is facing charges. He'll probally receive a notice to appear in court.

Sitting Eastbound Ellsworth and spotting this situation sitting Southbound on Platt would require some keen eyesight... Just sayin'

@ dot, I see that, but something is missing, story makes it sound like she was about to go through intersection and the light turned red. One would speculate that he passed in front of her for her to see what she said she saw, both him doing the actus reas, and the rear of his vehicle to get the license plate. the only other way to get the license plate is to have turned north on Platt and then looked at the back of his car. One other factor is the door would have been right against him, as opposed to perhaps her looking at him traveling north, and having the passenger space affording her a better view. Maybe, she was in the worlds tallest semi, could see right down into the car, and this guy's car was registered in state that requires a license plate on the front of the vehicle. I'd draw it up in a diagram, but I can't.

" ... this woman has some very keen eyesight" as opposed to treetowncartel ; )

Riddle me this, was the car traveling her past her in the southbound lane, or sitting at the intersection. If the later, this woman has some very keen eyesight. Also, I wonder if perhaps this guy has a "card" for his condition and a resulting affirmative defense for his alleged behavior.
