Police are investigating an indecent exposure reported in Ann Arbor's Bandemer Park Monday afternoon.

A 51-year-old woman who came to the park to meet some friends saw a completely naked man behind the wheel of his vehicle, Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said. The woman told officers she parked her car and, as she was getting out, noticed the white male suspect in the driver’s seat of the vehicle parked next to her, according to police.

“He was sitting in the car nude,” Bush said.

The woman called police at 2:57 p.m. to report the naked man, who left before officers arrived at the park.

The man was identified from the woman's suspect description. Bush said he will be questioned by investigators. Police did not want to release any additional information about the man — including his age, hometown and type of vehicle he was driving — until he could be questioned.

Some funny comments so far, but nothing near the comedic level of those about the motorist driving onto a frozen lake in Dexter last winter.

I have rarely visited this park, maybe two or three times total. Reading about this incident, I recall that I did once find a photo of a mostly naked man there.

Sure JonnyA2, yep, that was probably it. Right. Which explains why he was just sitting there, not changing.

@johnnya2 I'd rather it be a 50 something year old woman than a child. Its not the fact that he was naked per say its more-so the fact of where it was. The fact that he is in a PARK where children can be found isnt a little suspect to you? and @sellers...changing in a car and sitting in the car nude are two totally different things. when changing you're usually in a rush and I've never had to change ALLLL of my clothes but if I had to I would atleast have covered myself up during the transition of switching my attire.

@ eyeheart, If the underwear were wet, or non existent because he was in a swim suit and was changing. A woman in her 50;s saw a penis OMG, stop everything, call the police, ThIS is the best use of their time. Seems somebody needs to stop peeping in other peoples cars.

Never my underwear. But if you have had to swap out your underwear, could you share the reason? And why this couldn't be done in a bathroom? Dying to hear. Thanks.

I don't understand how the officers identified the man from her description, unless she got a license plate number. If they identified him on the spot, why hasn't he already been questioned? Is there a place to swim in that park? Could he have been wearing a bathing suit? Could he have been changing into a bathing suit? It just seems like a strange story to me and once again we have the police being very stingy with information.

No one swims there, Tru2? I have gone swimming in almost every body of water I have tried to kayak and canoe in, and I do it fully clothed. Also not on purpose. Enough said.

Just FYI: no one swims in Argo Pond. The Huron River is unfit for swimming due to high bacteria levels. I've seen no "no swimming" signs around Argo but almost everyone knows the reputation of the Huron and stay out of the water. As for how investigating officers identified the suspect: don't put too much stock in that kind of statement in news stories. It's practically a "tradition" for the news business: playing fast and loose with the information they provide. Also - it's possible the suspect had some kind of identifying marks or physical features, like tattoos or a prominent scar.

Though there have been "flashing" incidents at area parks, I was wondering what you said...And also wondering how this woman could tell he was *completely* naked...Plenty of men jog without shirts on, and if he was *inside* a closed vehicle...Maybe I don't want to know, on the other hand.

I hope that the police will put all other investigations on hold so that this vile criminal can be brought to justice and hopefully he will be locked away for good. Public nudity is an extremely serious crime and I am glad that the AA police department spends its time on this case instead of wasting precious resources on such petty incidents like a student getting run over and killed while crossing the street.

"it is possible the suspect was ID'd solely on the basis of his physical description (e.g., he might be a well-recognized public official)." Or, much more likely, a repeat offender known to police.

DBH

Tue, Aug 20, 2013 : 2:57 p.m.

I suspect that the reporter or police left out the likely involvement of a license plate in identifying the alleged perpetrator, but it is possible the suspect was ID'd solely on the basis of his physical description (e.g., he might be a well-recognized public official).
