A 52-year-old Ypsilanti woman was arrested for sending a man to the hospital after hitting him over the head with a 40-ounce bottle Saturday evening, police said.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said officers went at 6:10 p.m. Saturday to Wheeler Park, 810 N. Fourth Ave., for a report of two groups of people throwing glass bottles at each other.

The fight was done by the time police arrived, but one man was lying on a picnic table with a bloody wound, Bush said.

Witnesses told police the 50-year-old man, who suffered cuts to his head and near his left eye, had been struck by the woman with a 40-ounce glass bottle, according to Bush. In addition to his injuries, the man reported his wallet was missing, Bush said.

Huron Valley Ambulance responded to the park to give the man medical attention while police looked for the woman. Bush said witnesses at the park gave a description of the woman to police.

The woman was found walking with another person near Fourth Avenue and Beakes Street, according to Bush. The officer flagged her down and spoke to her before placing her under arrest, subsequently finding the victim’s wallet on her, according to Bush.

The woman has been lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail and is awaiting a possible arraignment, Bush said.
