Police: Man hit with rock, robbed behind Ann Arbor party store
A 56-year-old Flint man was hit on the head with a rock by a man who robbed him of liquor and cash Tuesday afternoon behind a party store, Ann Arbor police said.
Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said police were notified by staff at the Delonis Center — where he was staying — at about 5:10 p.m. Tuesday that the man had been robbed in the alley behind the Main Street Party Store, 201 N. Main St.
Bush said the man told police he had bought liquor at the store and then went into the alley, where a man he did not know hit him with a rock, took the cash and liquor and fled the area. The man then walked back to the Delonis Center, where he told staff about the robbery and was transported to the VA Hospital, Bush said.
Bush said he had an open wound on his head and some swelling.
While police were investigating at the scene of the robbery, a witness approached officers and told them that two men were walking with the man and seemed to be acting friendly, Bush said.
The witness said one of the men was wearing a leather jacket and the other was wearing a coat that was similar to the Honolulu blue of the Detroit Lions, Bush said. The approximate ages and sizes of the men were unknown.
Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Ann Arbor police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939.
Update: Ellen Schulmeister, director at the Delonis Center, contacted AnnArbor.com Wednesday afternoon with information regarding the Flint man involved in the robbery. Schulmeister said the man is not staying at the center overnight as a resident, but may have been receiving some services such as meals or something else at the center.

Time for SIU to set up some stings and log some overtime. There is trash in abundance to clean up. There's about 30 people that need to go to prison right away.

Good to know that in addition to caring for both the Washtenaw county and Detroit homeless, the taxpayers in Ann Arbor are now caring for the Flint homeless. Way to go Ann Arbor!

Hey on the bright side he was Homless in A2 and not in Flint he would have been shot in the head there and not just hit with a rock. Being close to Main Street party store i'm assuming that was a Crack Rock he was struck with?

With so much crime commited in alleys why use them? No short cut time is saved, most are dirty and stinky. I just don't understand why use an alley vs a city sidewalk. I go through the parking garage to avoid this stinkhole.

because it's illegal to have open alcohol on city streets, thus the attempt to be unseen in the alley

When rocks are outlawed, only outlaws will have rocks.

Whats going on in Ann Arbor? I used to feel safe. These people committing all these crimes are generally not people with jobs and families. They tend to be drug addicts and/or unemployed or homeless. Maybe Ann Arbor should have such a liberal approach when it comes to the homeless. That also goes for the drug policies.

So, Harry, you're telling me that you used to feel safe going into an alley to drink liquor with a couple of shady characters? Because that's what you're implying. Liberal? How about 'progressive' vs. 'regressive'. Maybe we should return to the middle ages where a serf could be killed on the spot for simply looking at a nobleman the wrong way. Your statement has zero basis in fact and makes no sense whatsoever.
