Police: Man arrested after pulling knife during confrontation in Ann Arbor

By Kyle Feldscher

An 18-year-old Ann Arbor man pulled a knife on a 17-year-old Ypsilanti boy and was arrested by Ann Arbor police early Saturday morning, investigators said Monday.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said the Ann Arbor man told the boy he was going to fight him before tracking him down just before 11 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of South University Avenue. Bush said the Ann Arbor man brandished a knife during a confrontation.

The confrontation between the two individuals started on Facebook, Bush said.

Bush said police identified the Ann Arbor man and arrested him at approximately 12:53 a.m. Saturday.

No one involved in the incident reported any injuries. Police did not release the Ann Arbor man’s name Monday morning.

Lets make all knives illegal. Hmm forks and spoons too. Maybe shovels and rakes and baseball bats should be outlawed also.

I appreciate that AP style is used here, but if they are in their teens, could we not just call them "teens"? An 18 or 19 yr old may be grown in body, but decision-making development has not reached maturity yet. They are particularly impulsive and not always given to looking before leaping. It's disturbing to see young people who have yet to reach full maturity being tried, sentenced, and sometimes incarcerated for life.

That is why it is important to give your children the real facts of life.once you reach a certain age the court is going to consider you an adult.

All right. How about a more analytical comment then. Reading the crime reports, there appears to be a large influx of visitors involved from outside Ann Arbor. Especially around the bars and early morning hangouts. Whether it's fistfights, alley gangs, knife attacks, cab & limo assaults, drunk driven bugs and trucks, home and business theft, people from out of town are involved more often than not. Here for the excitement. While promoting the image of Ann Arbor as being a "vibrant" place intending to attract more young people downtown, the DDA should also include the key word "safe" as part of their promo. To make "vibrant and safe" a reality, however, requires a pre-emptive police presence - full time patrols around Ann Arbor hot spots. Chief Seto indicated to City Council recently, that such a proactive element had to be cut out of the police budget over the past few years for the sake of demanded "efficiency gains" by the City. Maybe instead of funding the DDA for their "envisioned" vibrant future - one that apparently already exists - the CIty could hire a few more "envisioned" police officers around town and cut the city crime rate.

I enjoy the legal distinction between the 18 year old "man" and the 17 year old "boy."

Unless he tries to kill a police officer by shooting at him and then initiates a high speed chase before crashing into a home and attempting to break into that home... Then it is just obfuscated with the term "teenager".

Homeland- It's actually AP style, which is the general writing style for journalists. Criminally, in Michigan, a 17 year old is considered an adult. However, when it comes to speaking in general, a 17 year old is still a boy, according to AP style. At 18, a person is considered an adult, hence why I used man.

I think the term " juvenile " would be more appropriate
