Police: Friends suspected of stealing property from 2 Ypsilanti residents
Two separate thefts reported in the same area of Ypsilanti Sunday night appear to be the work of the victims' friends or acquaintances, police said.
Police do not think they are related, however.
"They just happened to be in the same general area," said Ypsilanti police Sgt. Brent Yuchasz.
At 10 p.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to the 900 block of Pleasant Drive for a report of a larceny. The female victim said she was having a party at her house and some of her friends stole her property, Ypsilanti police said in a media summary.
“It looks like at this point some uninvited guests showed up and helped themselves to some electronics,” Yuchasz said.
A laptop, digital camera and a guitar were reported stolen.
Police were dispatched to a second larceny at a nearby residence in the 900 block of West Michigan Avenue around 11:40 p.m. The victim in that case said she had allowed two friends over for the night and when she woke up, several of her belongings were gone, including a cell phone and small amount of cash, according to police.
No further details were immediately available. The investigation continues in both cases.
