Two arrested after they attempt to sell stolen cell phone to sheriff's deputy, investigators say
Two men were arrested Wednesday after investigators say they attempted to sell a stolen cell phone back to a man, but ended up meeting with Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies instead.
At about 6 p.m. Wednesday, a 20-year-old Ypsilanti Township man reported his cell phone was stolen, but he used a computer to "ping" its GPS and determine it was in the area of North Ford Boulevard in the township, deputies said.
The cell phone owner met with deputies on North Ford Boulevard and had his wife's cell phone with him, deputies said. As his wife's cell phone rang, the number showing was the man's cell phone number, sheriff's department spokesman Derrick Jackson said.
The man gave his phone to Deputy Andy Holt, who answered, when the male caller demanded cash to return the phone, Jackson said. Holt agreed to meet with the caller and another man in the 700 block of North Ford Boulevard, Jackson said.
When the two men showed up for the meeting, Holt and Deputy Brian Yeager arrested them, Jackson said. The Ypsilanti Township men, ages 50 and 37, were taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.
Charges are pending.

I am curious as to how the phone was stolen from the victim? Was it a burglary, strong-armed robbery, or a pickpocket? Glad the (alleged) thieves were apprehended.

grammatically speaking, this is just awkward. "As the wife of the man's cell phone rang," you seem to be telling us that the wife is married to the cell phone and that she is apparently ringing. i miss the days of professional journalism in Ann Arbor (with editors).

The following sentence is almost as interesting. "The man gave his phone to..." the deputy. He didn't have "his" phone. "His" phone was in the possession of the alleged perp. Rewrite desks have joined the dinosaurs. Reporting, once a fine art, is accepting finger painters in its studio.

Very nice. Amazing the things you can do with technology. Maybe a tracker on a necklace for parolee's that also render shocks?
