Man injured in fight at Packard Pub in Ann Arbor
A man was punched at least 5 times and may have suffered a broken nose during a fight Saturday night at Packard Pub, Ann Arbor police said.
The 28-year-old victim, who is from Washington, D.C., told police that he was assaulted about 9:50 p.m. at the bar at 640 Packard St. after he shoved a man who got in his face, police said.
The alleged assailant was wearing a white Notre Dame jersey, but it was not clear if the fight had anything to do with the Michigan-Notre Dame football game that was underway. Bar employees attempted to stop the man from leaving, but he was able to get away, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said. He was described as white, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and weighing 180 pounds. He is about 25 years old with short brown hair. He had a full beard and mustache, Bush said.
Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

I'm confused, this person "shoved" a guy who then may have felt he needed to defend himself and hit him out of reflex. I'm not sure I understand why the "shoving" isn't considered assault. I think these kids/adults should be warned that there's a lot of guys back from war and they aren't going to take kindly to being "shoved". They're wired for combat and provoking them with a shove is a losing proposition, possibly a fatal one. Peace.

Nobody likes anyone to get into their face. I don't like it, to close! A broken nose sounds pretty injured to me, although I have never had mine broken. I don't find shoving anyone necessary either. Yesterday, at a local gas station, somebody touched my rear side, the first time I didn't turn around, the second time I did, and it was a little girl with items in her hand to buy. I just smiled at her, and she smiled back.

Bar fights are news? It's too bad that you chose this one to report, even though many happen at various locations every night. I've never been to Packard Pub, but I'd be pretty irritated that you chose to put their name in a negative headline, when they had nothing to do with the matter.

This seems an inappropriate use of the tip line. What does "got in his face" mean? The implication is that the victim started the physical altercation by shoving him, making this a simple bar fight. He's apparently not severely injured. Why is this news, let alone something the police want to focus on?
