Man behind anti-police YouTube.com videos charged with possessing a Taser

By Lee Higgins

An Ypsilanti Township man who gained the attention of police officers across the country last year when he produced videos praising the shootings of local officers has been charged with possessing a Taser.

Madison Tristan Mealing, 38, has not yet been arraigned in court, records show.

The charge stems from a Nov. 23 raid at his mother's Superior Township home by Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies. Deputies also executed a search warrant that day at Mealing's home in Ypsilanti Township.

If convicted of the felony charge, Mealing faces up to four years in prison.

I wonder if the recent Bay city ruling on stun guns will impact these charges. http://www.detnews.com/article/20110422/POLITICS02/104220400/1022/Judge--Michigan-ban-on-stun-guns-unconstitutional As a good lawyer stated: "It's a circuit court ruling, so it's not binding statewide. The prosecutor says he'll ask the Court of Appeals to rule on the issue. That would make a statewide ruling." Then again, considering he's a felon...probably not.

Well, if you ask for attention from the authorities, don't be suprised if you get it. And this guy sounds as if he has issues that need to be addressed.... That being said, Michigan is one of only six states that do not allow citizen ownership of Tasers. This should change. Citizens should pass training just as with a CPL and then be allowed to carry one for their protection.

Praising the shooting of Police Officers, sounds like a sick puppy to me. If he is convicted of the felony, I hope he serves the full 4 years.

Now, since Tasers are not civilian legal in MI AND since each and every one is registered (at least with the company) how did this criminal come by it??? Inquiring minds want to know...

Anyone who posts Anti-Police statements or videos on You-Tube or elsewhere will get the attention of the Authorities. It may be freedom of speech, but it's the same as a sleeping dog. If you don't bother it, it will continue to sleep. If you wake it up of course it will want to "play or attack". You got its attention and now the dog will sniff around and see what it finds. Seems like this is the case in this particular matter.
