Man arrested after allegedly stealing wallet from counter of Ann Arbor party store

By John Counts

An Ypsilanti man is in custody for allegedly swiping a wallet from an Ann Arbor party store counter Thursday evening, police said.

Ann Arbor police were dispatched to Busters West, located at 695 South Maple Road, around 5 p.m. for the theft.

The wallet, which belonged to the customer in front of the man in line, looked "filled with money," to the suspect, said Ann Arbor police Sgt. Paul Curtis.

"It was a crime of opportunity," he added.

The Ypsilanti man, who police described as in his early 20s, fled the scene, but was arrested soon afterward in the 800 block of South Maple, Curtis said.

He currently is lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail facing a charge of larceny from a person. He is expected to be arraigned Friday.

"It's safer to rob unarmed Ann Arbor peeps." Might get shot doing the same in hometown. Pure Michigan!

The missing part of the story is how come he was still only one block away when caught. Awesomely good response time? Enough negative karma to choke a manatee?

He was located near or at the subsidized housing on S. Maple. Do the math.

If downing a 40 in a parking lot is wrong, I don't want to be right.

swiping a wallet (larceny from a person) is a 10-year felony. What?

Something wrong with that or something? I think it's rather light honestly. The kind of person that steals like that......serves no purpose in society. Don't worry though....he won't even get jail time for it...even if he's a repeat offender.

Yep besides the risk of forgetting things, this is why evrything stays in my hands and then goes back in a pouch or pocket when done. Wish I could get the wife and kids to do the same, sigh.

Careful now, you're getting pretty close to actually saying you believe you're responsible for your own safety in some small way. Horrors! You're on a slippery slope with your beliefs: suggesting anything one does to thwart thieves flies in the face of what the "majority" has decided (that we need cops every 5 feet and only they are capable and "authorized" to do anything at all with regards to criminal threats). LOL!
