Gun, compound bows stolen during Webster Township burglary
A handgun, two compound bows and various other items were stolen during a burglary reported Wednesday in Webster Township, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.
Someone broke into a home in the 4000 block of Dexter-Pinckney Road between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon and also stole three saws, two drills, a stereo system and laptop computer, a sheriff's department media summary said.
Deputies said entry was made through a window. So far, no arrests have been made. It's unclear whether it's related to a burglary reported Tuesday in the 7000 block of North Territorial Road. In that case, 10 guns used for hunting were stolen from a storage barn, deputies said.
Sheriff's department spokesman Sgt. Tom Pennington could not be reached for comment today.
Anyone with information can call the sheriff's department tip line at (734) 973-7711.

Seems too obivious that these addresses are known to have what the theives want. Appear to be targets. Whether windows are locked or not isn't going to stop anyone. Cool nights and no need to run A/C or heat one might expect a lot of open windows. Locks are to protect insurance companies not policy holders. Location, location and opportunity probably play a big part in this series of robberies. If you own them and have been public about owning them better figure out away to lessen your exposure.

Ann Arbor.com's retired police officer columnist - Rich Kinsey - says you're wrong. That's why I'm asking the question above. Most thieves won't break a window to get in. If it's unlocked, they'll help themselves, but if the doors and windows are locked, they'll usually move on. It's a bit more serious if they're willing to break windows to get in. Someone who will break a window might even try to kick in a door. Now you're talking about someone who's dangerous to people, not just their property.

Well, per the report they stole 10 guns, and you don't need a concealed pistol license on your own property.

Was the window locked? Did they ever say how the thief got into the barn? Man that's cold - they ripped off the two bows a week before deer season.

I wouldn't be surprised if these thefts were related. Still a damn shame, this is a lot of loot. (expensive items). Watch Craigs list and E-Bay.

The house shouldn't have been out at night alone.

You are correct the article doesn't specify, however the use of the term "broke" does have certain connotations.

How do you know the window was locked? I don't see that anywhere. Please don't go off on a rant, I'm just trying to figure out if the window they entered through was locked - obviously the thief is entering buildings they don't belong in, but is he/she forcing entry or just going through unlocked doors and windows?

But was the house locked in anything? If not, then somebody is going to say the owner is irresponsible because houses are often present during crimes.
