Ypsilanti man declines to pursue charges after being beaten by group of 10

By John Counts

Ypsilanti police were dispatched to the 30 block of East Cross at 2:11 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of 10 people beating a man.

The fight started when a 27-year-old Van Buren man said something about a 23-year-old Ypsilanti man's girlfriend. The 23-year-old punched the 27-year-old, prompting a crowd to jump in to beat the 23-year-old, according to police.

Alcohol was a factor, according to Det. Sgt. Thomas Eberts of the Ypsilanti Police Department.

"It sounds like a big drunken brawl," he said.

The crowd dispersed when police arrived. The 23-year-old did not want to pursue charges, according to police.

The 27-year-old man was transported to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

I am wondering if the county might bring charges against these people. I remember reading a long time ago something like this happening and charges were brought. This is not a nice thing to be reading. What is the world coming to?

Sounds like bullying to me. (I'm gonna talk smack about your girl, and when you do something about it, my friends and I are gonna take you down.)

Makes one wonder how this would have ended if this was a SOBER brawl? Of course the crowd dispersed when Police arrived.

Sometimes a simple old-fashioned brawl can settle things. It's sounds like that's just how this ended up.

You know, bringing the name of a business into this, when there is no evidence it was connected at all, is just not fair.

How did calling the incident hilarious violate the conversation guidelines?

What a terrible news story for people outside of our community to read. This is a shame, on all accounts.
