Ypsilanti man declines to pursue charges after being beaten by group of 10
Ypsilanti police were dispatched to the 30 block of East Cross at 2:11 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of 10 people beating a man.
The fight started when a 27-year-old Van Buren man said something about a 23-year-old Ypsilanti man's girlfriend. The 23-year-old punched the 27-year-old, prompting a crowd to jump in to beat the 23-year-old, according to police.
Alcohol was a factor, according to Det. Sgt. Thomas Eberts of the Ypsilanti Police Department.
"It sounds like a big drunken brawl," he said.
The crowd dispersed when police arrived. The 23-year-old did not want to pursue charges, according to police.
The 27-year-old man was transported to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
