Freedom Township couple gets probation for lying to police about burglary report
A Freedom Township husband and wife who lied to police about a burglary to defraud their insurance company received one year of probation.
Douglas and Wendy Beaumont were sentenced together to probation in Washtenaw County Circuit Court of falsifying a felony report with the Michigan State Police.
They pleaded guilty to the charge in October, and felony counts of filing a false police report and insurance fraud were dismissed, records show. They could have faced up to eight years in prison if convicted of the original charges.
Police said they responded to the couple’s home on Waters Road on April 5 to take a burglary report. The Beaumonts said they returned and found someone got in through a side door sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. that day. The couple provided a list of items reportedly stolen, but upon further questioning, admitted to embellishing the list.
Circuit Judge Donald Shelton ordered them to pay roughly $500 in fines and fees and required them to maintain employment as a condition of their probation, officials said.
Patrick Conlin, who represented both Beaumonts, did not return calls from AnnArbor.com.

So, there actually was a burglary the couple just embellished the list of stolen items? Sorry, some of the language used almost makes it sound like the whole break-in story was made up.

gaceekerr, the article says April 5th is the date they called police to report the false burglary. It also says they plead guilty in October. It does not say the date of sentencing.

What is the continuing problem annarbor.com has with "when"? We got the who, we got the what, we got the why and we got the where. Now, when did this sentencing occur?
